Stay In Spiritual Shape!
Friday's Devotion (1-30-04)
"Study to shew thyself
approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing
the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase
unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is
Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the
resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some." 2 Timothy
2:15-18 (KJV)
What I get out of
this is that we need to use scripture correctly. There is a way to both take the
scriptures and use them correctly and in context and there is a way to take
scriptures out of context and use them in a deceitful manner. Many people are
able to take scriptures and make you believe something totally different than
what the scriptures are actually teaching. With that being said, we need to stay
away from people who do this. We need to stay clear of debating and not let
these false teachers, bring us doubt. I ran into one of these situations very
recently. I must admit that it does bring doubt and even if you know the truth,
it's hard to overcome. These people can show you what they believe is proof of
their false doctrine and once you see their false evidence it seems so hard not
to believe them. It's hard not to believe these people, because our flesh is
something that goes off of what we can see. Our flesh is weak and gullible. The
days are shortened because if they weren't even God's very elect, would fall
away. This world is flesh versus spirit. Some people live in spirit and some
live in the flesh. Some people who live in the flesh want to bring others to
live in their flesh too and people who live in spirit, want others to do that
too. My point is that the people who live in the flesh are going to do anything
in their power to deceive us. The flesh is constantly battling the spirit, not
just within the world, but within ourselves too. This is why we can not feed the
flesh, by listening to the profane babblings of false teachers and their false
doctrine. This is why it's important not to debate. If we feed our flesh we make
it more powerful and it overtakes us. If we feed our spirit, we make it more
powerful and we live in the spirit, which is a good thing. We need to feed our
spirits with God's Word, praise music, prayer, fellowship and anything else that
is of God! We need to put away the things that aren't of God! It's kind of like
a health plan. If you want to get in shape, you work out, you eat healthy and
etc, but if you're not careful, junk food will get in your diet and then it's
over. Once the junk food is in your body, it ruins your whole diet and you get
addicted to it. Are you going to go on a spiritual diet and get rid of the junk
food of the flesh or are you going to eat the junk of the flesh and get out of
spiritual shape? Stay in spiritual shape!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message. Please forgive us of
all our sins and we forgive those who've wronged, us. Bless your Word, to us.
Help us know the truth and to stay in the truth. Do not let man, deceive us and
do not let us deceive anyone. In Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
