Don't Think Too Highly Of Yourself!

Sunday's Devotion (1-18-04)

"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." James 4:6 (KJV)

We can save a lot of trouble by being humble. When people continually insult me, I sometimes get prideful and open my mouth in anger. If I stayed humble all the time, maybe I wouldn't have so many arguments and trouble in life. I notice sometimes when I try to act hard and prideful, I will get kind of humbled. If I'm doing good with something and I get too prideful, then next time I won't do so well. If we're humble, we are also more likely to get our prayers answered. There are so many benefits to being humble, that people don't realize. God, resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. Most likely if you look at a humble person and then a proud person, you'll see that the humble person has more real friends. You'll notice that the prideful person, will most likely chase away every friend, they ever get. It's sad, but it's true. If you act proud all the time, there will be a time where you are going to be humbled. If you play football and think that you're the best, some day someone is going to play against you and you're going to be humbled. You're going to find out that you're not really the best. We need to realize that whatever we do, we can't be the best. We can't be the best, because there is always someone better at it. If we're humble, we won't be so upset when we find out that someone is better at something than we are. I can get built up in my pride and then that same pride can hurt me, when I see that someone else is better than me at something or closer to God. If you go in thinking you're the best you will come out disappointed. If you go in knowing that you're not the best, you will come out and you won't be so disappointed and upset. We can really set ourselves up for a big fall, with our pride. Be humble and don't think too highly of yourself. Put your trust in God and not yourself, you will always disappoint yourself.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive those who've wronged, us. Help us to be humble and help us to put our trust in you. Bring us closer to you, but don't let it get to our heads. In Jesus, name. A-men!

God bless!
