Count Them As A Brother, Not An Enemy!

Friday's Devotion (1-16-04)

"And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother." 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15 (KJV)

You know we have a lot of believers that don't really live by the scriptures. What I mean by that is for example, you have followers who count other people who are doing wrong, as enemies. If you're a homosexual, a lot of followers, will count you as an enemy and this shouldn't be. Homosexuality is a sin, but we're not supposed to make the homosexual people our enemies. We are supposed to be a light and live our life right. If we're hating everyone who does wrong, we are not being a very bright light. Many people totally make things into something it shouldn't be. Just because you're not going to associate with someone doesn't mean they have to be your enemy. There are many people who I will not have company with, but I can't count them all as enemies. Anything that we see others doing, that isn't right we have or could've easily done the same thing. If someone is using the name of God, in vain we can beat them up or we can realize that in one point or another in our life, we have done the same thing. So, if someone is using the name of God, in vain we don't need to be around them, but we have no right to make them our enemy. Don't get me wrong, I don't like sin at all. However, we all must realize that sin is in everyone and it isn't the people, we need to hate, but the sin itself. Sin is our enemy, not those who live in sin. I do things that I wish I wouldn't do, but I can't help myself sometimes. If I hated everyone who did something wrong, I'd have to hate myself too. We are all sinners and we all fall short of the glory of God. For that reason, Jesus, came and died for our sins and rose again.

I know people that I used to talk to and I don't count them as enemies, but if I hang with them, I'll end up doing the things that they do. If I don't hang with them, hopefully they will be ashamed for doing those things and not do them. I must and still will count these people as brothers, but I can't put myself in that old situation again. I can't go and do what I did before.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive those who've wronged, us. Help us to accept people as our brothers and not as enemies, even though we do not keep company with them. Help us to be a light for all the world, to see. In Jesus, name. A-men!

God bless!
