Pray For Patience!

Thursday's Devotion (1-8-04)

"For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul." Hebrews 10:36-39 (KJV)

We as followers need a great amount of patience to receive the promises of God. Many people do God's will, but after they do it, they get impatient waiting for the promises of God. When they get impatient, they end up falling away from the Lord and losing what was promised to them. If we're patient we will receive the promises of God, in due time. Let's take a look at Moses and his people, when they were promised the promised land. They went into the wilderness and were stuck there wondering around for forty years. They were promised the promised land, but they had to wait forty years to get there. Some of Moses' people had the faith and patience they needed. Since they kept the faith and patience, when the forty long years were up, they received the promise of God.

Many people pray and maybe they have diseases or maybe something else is going on. A lot of those people, fall away from the Lord, because their prayers weren't answered immediately. However, there are also many, who continue believing with patience and those are the ones, who sooner or later, receive the promises of God. Those are the people, who receive answered prayers.

Patience is a very important part of our walk with the Lord. We can have faith, but if we don't have patience, we can't keep the faith. We can't keep believing if we don't have the patience when something bad, is happening. Patience is something we need to seek and pray for. However, if we pray for patience, we will receive trials and things will get hard for a while. People don't just get patience, patience is something that is built up. Patience is built up, through trials and tribulation. So, if you're going through a tough time and feel like it's never going to end, then a work is being done in you and the work is that patience is being built up in you. Pray for Patience!

Sometimes it even takes patience to do the will of God. I sit here daily and try to write a devotion, but it doesn't always go so smoothly. Sometimes a lot of stuff is going on and I just can't have an easy time. So, patience is needed a lot more than it can be said.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this message. Please forgive us of all our sins and we forgive those who've wronged us. Please give us the patience and the faith, that we need to seek and receive your promises. In Jesus, name. A-men!

God bless!
