Put Your Pride Aside!
Tuesday's Devotion (7-29-03)
"But he giveth more grace.
Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."
James 4:6 (KJV)
If you want the
grace of God, in your life, you must first humble yourself. We're not going to
get anywhere with God, if we don't be humble. Here's an example of pride and how
it'll get you no where: Let's I say I walk up to you and say, "I am righteous
and powerful, give me all of your stuff!" I wouldn't get anywhere with you, like
that would I? You would just walk away and resist me, well God, is the same way
in that situation. Here's a humble example: A friend calls you on the phone and
says, "Hi. I'm really doing bad, this month and I'm not making it. You're the
only one who can help me, can I borrow some money?" Most likely you'd give your
money or stuff to the humble person, over the proud one, right? I know if
someone thought they were all that and demanded something from me, I wouldn't
give them anything. However, if someone was in need and didn't act all proud,
I'd help them. If you want grace and success, you must first be humble. See my
other devotion, "Humble
Yourself and Succeed!" Humbling yourself is a very important part, of
walking with God. I think God, wants us to know that He's God and without Him,
we can do nothing. I think He doesn't want us, to think too highly of ourselves.
Some of the most prideful people are Christians and this isn't good. It's not
good, because we're not being a light for the Lord and it gives the wrong idea
about God. I knew a person, who didn't believe in God and hated Christians. I
knew him before and after I became a Christian. Anyway, he hated Christians
because all the ones he knew, were proud. They thought more highly of
themselves, than they should've. This also, made him bitter and made him resist
the truth of God. When we're proud, we're not representing God, at all! He's not
about pride, the Word says, "...God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto
the humble." It doesn't say, "God, resist the humble and gives grace to the
proud!" The proud Christians are going to be sad ones, when judgment day rolls
around, unless they change! Because we're held accountable when we turn others
away from the Lord. Also, when we're proud we go unjustified and our sins aren't
forgiven. They're not forgiven because we didn't humble ourselves and ask for
forgiveness, because we thought we were righteous and without sin! Put your
pride aside and look deep into yourself. Find that wicked sin of pride and admit
to God, "I am prideful." Then repent and ask forgiveness of that sin and ask to
be changed! Because if you don't, you're in trouble. I'll admit to everyone and
God, right now that I still have a problem with pride, sometimes. I'm not
perfect and I admit it. Let's pray.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you and ask for forgiveness of our
pride. We ask that you'd forgive us for the rest of our sins too and change us.
We also forgive those who've wronged us. Take our pride away and if we don't
humble ourselves, humble us. In Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
