Humble Yourself and Succeed!
Saturday's Devotion (7-26-03)
"Humble yourselves
therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." 1 Peter 6-7 (KJV)
Sometimes as
humans, we're too proud to ask God, for help. We say, "I don't need to ask for
this, I can handle it!" However, we need to humble ourselves and ask God, for
help and not depend on ourselves. He cares for us and the things we think we can
handle sometimes we can't. I wonder why that is, when we really feel we can do
something on our own, but fail. One answer to that question is this scripture,
"And whosoever shall exalt
himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Matthew 23:12 (KJV)"
Meaning if we don't humble ourselves, God, will do it for us! I'd rather humble
myself, than have God, do it. When we're full of pride and say, "I don't need
God, to do this." He's going to say, "I'm going to show them, they can do
nothing without me!" Then you end up going through more than you had to, when
all you had to do is ask God! When we exalt ourselves, we are glorifying
ourselves. We're praising ourselves and not God. However when we glorify Him, He
will exalt us and give us what we ask in due time. It might not be right away,
but it will come in due time! We can't depend on ourselves, everything that's
important in our walk with God, is faith. Faith in God, that you will receive
what you ask for, that you will live in His Kingdom and ETC. Have you ever had
someone say to you, "I don't need your help, I can do it!" Maybe it hit you
wrong and you thought, "I hope you fail miserably!" Well, God, doesn't hope He
can make you fail miserably or He can make you succeed!" However, if you want
success you must first go to Him! If you want to fail miserably all of your
life, go ahead and do it yourself! There are a lot of people even Christians,
who are too prideful to ask God, for things. They want to glorify themselves
before men and receive praise. However when we fail, we think, "What went
wrong!" Then we get to feel humiliated because everyone knows we failed. That's
when the humbling comes in or it may even come in, when you get mad at yourself
and say, "I can't do anything right!" We don't need to be ashamed to ask God,
for something. He's been around longer, knows more, He created everything and on
and on and on. Humble yourself and be exalted by God! You will not have any
success, trying to exalt yourself! Another way we need to humble ourselves is by
listening to and following our Father's instructions in the Bible. Because
sometimes we think our ways are the right way and don't listen to God's way.
God's way is the only way!
Prayer: Dear Father, please forgive our pride and all of our sins. We also
forgive those who've wronged us. We ask that you'd help us not to be prideful
and to humble ourselves. Teach us to live your way and not ours. Thank you. In
Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
