Confess Your Sins!

Tuesday's Devotion (7-22-03)

"I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah." Psalm 32:5 (KJV)

These scriptures remind me of Cain and Abel. Cain, killed Abel and then when the Lord, asked what happened to Abel, Cain, tried to hide it. Cain, was very unsuccessful at trying to hide his sin from God. God, asked Cain, what happened because He wanted to see if Cain, would tell the truth, but Cain, didn't. My point is God, knows all of our sins and we can't hide them. He wants us to confess our sins, because it shows that our pride isn't too great. It also shows that we want to be made right, with God. I'm not saying Cain, was puffed with pride, he just didn't want to feel God's wrath. My mother is kind of prideful, if you tell her she needs to ask for forgiveness, she'll say, "What for? I don't do anything wrong, I work hard!" I always get into it with her over that one, I'll say, "It doesn't matter, how hard you work. We're all sinners and if we don't repent and follow Jesus, we will not make it into God's Kingdom!" Jesus, also has a parable where one guy claims to be righteous in their prayer and another claims to be a sinner. One puffed with pride and another lowly and humble. The one that claimed to be a sinner and asked for forgiveness and was lowly and humble, was forgiven. The other one wasn't because He didn't acknowledge his sin. The important part is to acknowledge that we are sinners and repent (Ask for forgiveness and try not to sin again.) The point here is this: If you confess your sins and hide them not, you will be forgiven! Let's say, I go in your house and pocket a few things here and there. Later on when I'm not there you're going to notice, those things missing. Would you rather me call you and say, "I stole those things and I'm sorry!" or would you want to come to my house and see your things laying around? My point is if you have to find out on your own, that I wronged you and I don't apologize, you're least likely to forgive me. God, is the same way, He wants an open relationship where we can call on Him and say, "Lord, I did it! I'm sorry, forgive me!" He doesn't want to be a stranger to you, because if you steal from a stranger are you going to confess it to them? You'd probably go to jail, if you did. However, if you steal from your friend, you can call them and say, "Sorry, I stole from you." Then you wouldn't have to worry about being arrested for it. I don't know if that makes much sense, but all that really needs to be said is, "Confess your sins!" Also, I've heard someone say, "I have to confess all my sins one by one or I'll go to Hell!" That's not true, because we can't possibly know all of our sins. Just simply say, "Forgive me of all my sins." It's good to confess the ones you know though, but you don't have to take note of all your sins. Because we sin in our mother's womb and there's noway, we can remember that far back!
