If God, Gives Us A Tomorrow!
Wednesday's Devotion (6-18-03)
"Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." James 4:13-17 (KJV)
These scriptures speak a lot. They speak to me and I realized just now, this is something I do. If I have plans to go somewhere or do something I'll say, "Tomorrow, we're going to go to a Christian concert or ETC". What I should be saying is, "Tomorrow, if the good Lord, grants me another day and allows us to go we will!" I'm young, but just like anyone else, if the Lord, wants to take me home He will, whenever He chooses. My brother died at 19 yrs old, in 1992 and the other day, I could've gotten ran over by a truck, but God, saved me. So these scriptures are a real lesson to me and I hope they are to you. When we say, "Tomorrow, we go and do this or that." We're boasting and it's a sin. Personally, I think it's sin because of this: If we say what we're going to do tomorrow, we're doubting God's ability to take our life today. We're saying, "I'm going and none can stop me, not even God!" That's just my thoughts on it. If you're young, old or just in great shape, don't take today for granted and just expect to be alive tomorrow. Now that we know this is sin, when we do it, we're sinning. Because it says, "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." So now, since I know it's sin and I say, "Tomorrow, I do this or that." I'm in sin and if you do that now, you're in sin. We can't go through life, worrying about tomorrow. God, is the only one who knows if we'll have a tomorrow.
The part that says, "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." Goes for other things too. If you read your bible and know it's sin to commit adultery or ETC and you commit that sin, you're sinning. God, doesn't really hold us accountable for things we do, ignorantly. By ignorantly I mean this: Sometimes we do things and think it's a good deed, but it's not in God's eyes. He won't hold us accountable because we thought it was the right thing and didn't know any better.
Now you might say, "Well, you've been pushing us to read the bible and if that will make us more accountable, why should we?" I got some answers to that question. First off, it'll make you grow dramatically in your relationship with God, when you read your bible daily! That's a good enough reason right there. Also, the bible is our guide and it instructs us in life. It'll help us make the right choices and when we make the right choices, we'll find abundant blessings!
Next time we start to say, "Tomorrow, we do this or that!" We need to change our wording to, "If God, gives us another day, tomorrow we do this or that!" Let's just take the time right now, to thank God, for today. It might've been a bad day for you, but thank Him, anyway!
God bless!
