What Goes Around, Comes Around!
Friday's Devotion (6-13-03)
"He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame." Proverbs 10:4-5 (KJV)
These scriptures
are talking about work, at least I think so. He that is poor, is poor because he
deals with a slack hand. By a slack hand, it means the person is lazy. They're
not faithful and don't do anything. You know the person at work that calls in
all the time and says, "I'm sick today, can't make it to work!" I'm not judging
anyone. There are some people, that really get sick a lot, could be a nervous
condition. I don't mean to justify myself, but when I was in school I missed a
lot and it was because I did get sick. But I got sick because I was a nervous
wreck. I had and still have bad nerves, so I'll get sick over things like that
because I really got messed with by other students. I still have a problem in
this area, I'm very shy in fear that people will make fun of me. Anyway, the
hand of the diligent maketh rich. The diligent workers are the rich people!
Diligent, pretty much means energized or you could just say, the hard workers.
These people aren't lazy and unless you work at a place with favortism, the
diligent workers are the ones who get raises. Maybe you're saying, "I hardly
ever get raises!" Either you don't work hard enough or your job, is the wrong
job for you!
Let's talk about the second verse here,
"He that gathereth in summer is a
wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame."
I get two different meanings out of this, but they're kind of the same, in away.
He that gathers in the summer, is the one who is the worker and he's the wise
son. He's probably also the diligent man, in the first verse too. He's the one
who will be successful and rich, but the one that sleeps during harvest is a
shame! He doesn't do anything, he's the slack hand in the first verse. He's
going to be poor for the rest of his life. Why is he going to be poor? Because
he's just plain lazy! God's Kingdom, can be explained with these scriptures as
well. There are many Christians, who do nothing with their faith. They don't
spread the Word, they're not a bright light and they don't donate or anything!
These people are the ones with the slack hand. With their slack hand, they most
likely have absolutely no riches in Heaven! It's harvest time and they do no
gathering, they just lay around and sleep! If you're one of those slackers, you
might say, "Well, I don't care if I have riches in Heaven, as long as I get in!"
That attitude is a disgrace and most likely you won't get in Heaven, with that
attitude! Don't take me wrong, I have reasoning for saying that. Here it is,
have you ever heard the story of the sheep and the goats? The goats are the ones
who go to Hell and the Sheep, go to Heaven. The goats are separated on the left
hand of God and the Sheep on the right hand. The right hand is the place you
want to be, because if you're there, you enter into God's rest. However, if
you're on the left, you go to Hell, forever! My point is the only difference
between the sheep and the goats, is what they did and didn't do. The Sheep,
would be the people that gather and help others and do the work of the Lord. But
the goats are the ones who say, "I don't feel like it!" The goats are lazy and
there future is very poor, but the sheep shall be rich!
I don't mean to judge people, but there are too many lazy Christians. I'm lazy
on some things and I need to change, so don't feel bad. We need to pray for a
change and we need to make ourselves do things. We can't let our feelings
control our actions. Just because you don't feel like doing something, doesn't
mean you shouldn't do it! If we go through life saying, "I don't feel like it!"
When we die God, will pretty much say, "I don't feel like letting you in my
Kingdom!" You know the saying, "What goes around comes around!"? If you don't
feel like helping others and don't feel like doing God's work, He won't feel
like letting you in Heaven! Start working for some riches in Heaven, whether or
not you feel like it!
Prayer: Dear Father, in Heaven. We thank you, for this message and wake up call.
We thank you, for taking the time to give us this message and show that you
care. We ask that you'd forgive us of all our sins, as we forgive those who've
wronged us. We also ask that you'd change us into your image. Make us, not to be
lazy and help us to build riches in Heaven. For where a man's riches are there
his heart, is also. In Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
Hope you enjoyed. Please post your thoughts on this topic, on the
