Faith Comes By Hearing!
Tuesday's Devotion (6-10-03)
"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17 (KJV)
How many people can say, "I have faith, in someone I don't know a thing about."? I don't think anyone can, so if you don't read God's Word, how can you know Him? If you don't know Him, how can you have faith in Him? It's impossible! You might think you know Him and say, "Well, I pray and He answers my prayers and that gives me faith!" But let me ask you, how do you know He has to answer your prayers? How do you know what you're praying is in His divine will? What if He doesn't answer one of your prayers? Most likely you'll grow bitter and start not believing in Him. But if you read God's Word, you'd know your prayer obviously wasn't in His will or it wasn't His timing for it. We know George Washington, existed because we read about him. We read the history books, we see his face on the dollar and so on. There's no doubt George Washington, existed. However the only reasons we believe he existed, is because we read about him and heard of him. We never saw him, so if we wouldn't of read about him or heard of him we would have no faith of his existence. The picture of George Washington, means nothing if we don't know about him. God, is the same way we have to stay in His Word. If you want to grow in faith, you need to read God's Word. How many of you watch television, read books, go on the internet and ETC, but don't read the bible? I know there's a lot out there who do just that. You're Christians too and yet you prefer reading a romance novel or ETC, other than the bible. I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but you read about phony people and storylines and neglect God's truth! God, wants a close relationship with His people, yet some people would rather know Jack and The Bean Stalk more! That's pretty pathetic wouldn't you say? How many of you neglect God, for a phony character and story like Jack and The Bean Stalk? You might say, "I don't read about phony characters and storylines! I read non fiction books or Christian books!" So what, that doesn't mean anything if you're neglecting God's Word. I'm not saying to stop reading other things, I'm just saying don't neglect God's Word. Get your priorities straight! What use would I be if I read other books and not the bible? I wouldn't have this site and I wouldn't be close to God, at all! I'd be deceived too and following some cult, probably. Let's say the bible is a telephone and God, is calling to talk to you. The phone (The bible) is ringing and you're not picking up. He's been trying to call and call. Soon He'll finally say, "Fine, they don't want to hear from me!" Then He'll hang up! How many of you want God, to hang up on you? Pick up the phone (The bible) today, before God, hangs up! Once He hangs up you've lost all connection.
God bless!
