Overcome Evil!

Saturday's Devotion (6-7-03)

"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but [rather] give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance [is] mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.  Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.  Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good."  Romans 12:19-21 (KJV)

Sometimes we often make this mistake, we try to avenge our own enemies. We try to overcome evil with evil, but that's not possible, let me tell you why. First off, it is written, "Vengeance [is] mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." So, when we try to get pay back on our own enemies, we wrong our own soul. We sin against God, by trying to repay our enemies. One reason, I think it's such sin is because when we try to repay our enemies, it's kind of like trying to play God. Not only that, but it's trusting ourselves over God. That's all sin. If we want to overcome evil we must do it with good. If we bless our enemies and they continue to persecute us, who's in the wrong? Our enemies, but if we persecute our enemies, who persecute us, who's in the wrong? Both parties are and they both will pay for it. We can not overcome evil by taking part in it! How can you defeat something you're teamed up with? How can you beat Satan, if you sin to beat him? You can't because by sinning, you're giving in to him and he's winning. But to beat Satan, you must submit to God and turn from sin. If you treat your enemies good, you're in a winning situation. Let's say your enemy comes to your house and needs something, he's really desperate. He needs food like the scripture says, now if you give him that food, you're heaping coals on his head. You're defeating evil. Your enemy will probably feel bad too and think, "This person's crazy. After all I've done to them, they feed me?" Then they might even go as far to say, "Hey, you know what? We can be friends." By doing that you're pleasing God and being a true light. You could end up being such a powerful light, you help save your enemy's soul! He or she could say, "Man God, must be real for this person to be so nice, to me!" However, even if they don't become your friend and remain your enemy, you're still in the winning seat. You're the winner because you pleased God and not yourself. You're the winner because you didn't wrong your own soul and sin against God. He'll bless you for it too! I'm feeling a little strange, so I'm going to take this a step further. Do you have an enemy? If so invite that person to dinner and do it for God! Do it as unto the Lord! If it's a family member or just someone that doesn't like you. Start heaping some coals today! Do it with love!

Prayer: Dear Lord, we pray that we'd be a light for you. We ask that you'd forgive us of all our sins and we forgive our enemies. We ask that anyone who invites their enemy to dinner, gets a blessing. We ask that their enemies would be convicted and want to change. In Jesus, name. A-men!

I hope this message helps you. Most likely once you invite your enemy to dinner or do something good and not bad to them, you'll have an easier time forgiving them! The Lord, wants to bless you, so bless your enemy or enemies, today! If any of you do this, I'd like to hear a praise report! Thank you!

God bless!
