He That Spares His Rod, Hates His Child!
Thursday's Devotion (5-29-03)
"He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes." Proverbs 13:24 (KJV)
How can correcting your children, show them love? Well, it shows them that you care what they do and it shows you're taking time for them. One time my cousin was telling me some things and he told me, "I come in late and my dad does nothing. I want him to say something, to show he cares." It was something to that extent. Anyway he didn't believe his dad cared for him, because his dad didn't correct him. The sad truth is he must've hated his son. Who would let someone they love get into so much trouble? Who would do that when they have the authority to stop it? Our Father in Heaven, cares about us. There will be times He corrects us and He does it out of love. He doesn't want us to get into trouble. If He let us do whatever we wanted, where would the love be? We wouldn't know we were wrong and when we died, we'd go to Hell. That wouldn't be a loving Father. A loving parent corrects their children. There was another guy who had no involvement with his child. The only time he came around was to punish his child. He did it because he wanted to cover whatever the kid might've done wrong. That's not right, that's not love either. There has to be a balance. If you're going to correct your child do it, because they did something wrong. I mean the kid in this situation didn't even know what he was being punished for. So, that's no good. How can he learn his lesson? There has to be a just balance. I helped raise my niece, 'til she was about five years old. I love my niece and when she did something wrong I corrected her. I didn't just correct her to be doing it. I did it when she needed it. I would also see her do the wrong thing, I wouldn't just assume she did something wrong. If you're going to assume your child has done something wrong all the time and if they're not, they'll say, "Well, I might as well do something wrong! I'm going to get punished for it anyway!" Be fair with your correction and have a just balance.
God bless!
