Believe And Then Receive!
Wednesday's Devotion (5-7-03)
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed." James 1:5-6 (KJV)
If anyone is lacking wisdom, just ask God, for it and He'll give it to you. All we have to do is believe we will receive it. Isn't that great, all we have to do is ask and we shall receive, if we believe. If we waver, we won't get what we're asking for though. Waver, pretty much means to believe one minute and not believe the next. I can tell you a few things about wavering. If we're wavering we're driven with the sea and tossed. Meaning we're one place for a minute, until the wind comes and blows us away! I wavier, sometimes. I believe until a wind storm comes and once it comes it blows me away! Does that sound familiar? I believe everyone has that problem at one time or another, because faith doesn't just come just like that. Faith is a work of God. If you have faith, you better know you got that faith from God. You didn't give yourself that faith. It takes trials and tribulation to gain more faith. Good things like faith, don't come natural to us. They're given to us from God, through the Holy Spirit. Anyway, when the wind storm comes and tries to blow us away, we must stand firm. We must believe, if we don't believe we will not receive. One thing I'm learning the hard way, is believing comes before receiving. That order will not be reversed. We must have nothing wavering. Meaning we must have no doubts. Sometimes we say things like, "God, is so great and awesome!" But then when a big problem comes, we act as if it's too big for God. We need to remember that God, knew that big problem was coming, before it ever came. We need to remember that big problem, really isn't a big problem. It's not a big problem because we have God, on our side. How can our problems be big with God, on our side? Is that possible? That's like saying an ant is a big problem to an ant eater. Our only problem is ourselves. Our problem is we won't let ourselves believe. It can be hard, but we must keep in mind who our God, is. Our God, is creator of all things. Our God, is a loving God, who sent His Son, to die in our place. Sometimes God, will take His time to help us, but we must remember He will do it in His timing. Look at how long God, took to handle the problem called, "sin." It was thousands of years after Adam and Eve, sinned, until He sent His son. For some reason, He waited that long to send His son and give us salvation. I know He had a good reason, we just don't know what. He has a good reason to take His time to help us too. Maybe that reason is because we don't have enough faith. Let's say a prayer together.
Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you this day and ask you to give us faith and wisdom. Help us to believe and help us not to be like the wave of the sea. We thank you, for today's message. In Jesus, name. A-men!
God bless!
