What Are Your Actions Doing?

Tuesday's Devotion (5-6-03)

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV)

We need to be a light for the world. If we're not a light for everyone else, how can the unbelievers see the difference in us? How can they tell that our God, is real? If we act like everyone else, they'll think we are no different and say, "What's the point of giving my life to Christ? Is that so I can stay the same and just be able to call myself a Christian?" If people see that we're different they will wonder what we have. They will want what we have. There's a saying that says, "You're the only Bible, some people ever read." It's true too, but we must ask ourselves something. If we're the only Bible some people read, is there a light shining on us, where they can see the words? If they're trying to read in the dark, they won't be able to read at all. We need to show our light and not throw our candles under a bushel. What happens if we throw a lit candle under a bushel? The fire will be put out. We need to do good and be a light, so others might see and glorify our Father. Why would people want what we have if the only way, they ever see us is in a bad mood? If we go to the store or somewhere else, the people there may never see us again. But when they do see us, we need to be a light. When they go home we want them to remember us, but in a good way. We want them to say, "Remember that nice person at the store?" We don't want them to say, "Remember that jerk at the store?" We want people to glorify our Father, for our works. We don't want people cursing God and saying, "Is this the kind of person God, wants people to be? Does He want them to be ignorant, hypocritical jerks? If that's the case I'll never follow Him!" I knew someone who thought every Christian, thought they were better than everyone else. He thought this way, because every Christian he knew was that way. This turned him off from God. I was a new Christian at the time and I didn't do a very good job at witnessing either. My point is this, our actions as Christians, could effect someone else's view on God. It could either bring them to God or turn them away from God. What are your actions doing?

God bless!
