Are We Praying In Vain?

Monday's Devotion (5-5-03)

"Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it." Job 35:13 (KJV)

When we pray to God, we need to do it without pride and with respect to God. If we're not respectful and we're full of pride, He won't listen to our prayer. When we pray we must keep in mind, who we're praying to. We're praying to the Almighty God, who hates sin and pride is a sin. If we live a prideful life and then try to humble ourselves to get what we want out of God, we won't get anywhere. Our prayers would be in vain. People like to live like they know it all and live pride fully, but then they go to God and act lowly and humble. But God, sees their hearts and He sees how they live the rest of the time. Their prayers are in vain, unless they ask for forgiveness and then want to change. If we keep doing the same sins and don't care and don't want to change, we're showing no respect to God. We need to change and we need to want to change. If we don't want to change God, most likely won't change us. If we're not sincere in our prayers to God, we're praying in vain. What I mean is if we tell God, "I'm sorry for my sins, please forgive me." and we're not really sorry and we go and keep doing it, I don't believe He'll honor that prayer and answer it. On the other hand, if we have an addiction to sin and want to change, but can't and we're really sorry, He'll forgive us. But we need to ask Him, to change us. In other words, if we want God, to take our prayers seriously we must first take Him seriously. But if we think we're righteous and put ourselves up there with God, that's vanity and God, won't regard it. If we pray and say, "God, I know I'm righteous and I'm just great. Thank you, God!" We might as well forget about Him hearing that prayer. But if we pray and say, "Dear God, I'm a sinner and I ask you to forgive me." He'll hear and answer that prayer. We must be humble to get our prayers, heard.
