Keep Your Word!
Tuesday's Devotion (4-29-03)
"When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay." Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 (KJV)
We need to be careful what we promise. Because if we make a promise we can't keep, it was better not to make that promise. God, has made promises to us, in His word, what would happen if He broke His promises? We'd be in poor shape and we'd be sad. The good news is, God, doesn't break His promises. My point is God, doesn't break His promises to us, so we should keep our promises to Him. This is a part of honesty, if we make a promise that we know in our hearts we can't keep, that's a promise we shouldn't make. That's a promise that's most likely going to be broken. That promise should've never been made. We can try to do things, but we don't have to promise that we will do it. What I mean is we can just do it and not make the promise, if we think we might break it. God, wants us to keep our word and not just with Him, but with others. The only promises that should be broken are promises that will get in the way, of your relationship with God. But again that promise shouldn't have been made in the first place. Let's say, you weren't a Christian one year ago and you promised a friend that one year later, you'd both meet up again and get drunk. Time it was time to pay that vow, you had just developed a relationship with God and you didn't want to go out and drink with that friend. I believe that God, would honor you more if you broke that promise, than if you kept it or you can compromise with that person and do something else. Don't make promises you can't keep and don't make promises that will get in the way, of your relationship with God. Pay your vows to God, first and then pay your vows to men. It's very important to keep your word and God, is pleased when we do. I've made some promises to God and I would rather die than break them. I won't break those promises, sometimes it seems hard and Satan, will tempt us to break those promises. But if you made a vow to God, you best keep it! I made a promise to God, in a very difficult time before I was a Christian. I promised Him, that I would pray everyday, but I failed that promise. Thankfully God, is faithful and He still accepted me and now I pay that vow each and everyday. I plan to never break another vow to God. Keep your vows to God and you'll be blessed for it!
God bless!
