Disciplined For Our Profit

Thursday's Devotion (4-17-03)

"For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby." Hebrews 12:10-11 (KJV)

The Lord, doesn't discipline or chasten us for pleasure. He does it because He loves us and wants us to be partakers of His holiness. No discipline or chastening seems joyful when you're going through it, but when it's over you get the reward. You will get the peaceable fruit of righteousness! We need to be disciplined and corrected by our Heavenly Father, so we can grow into His image. When we're chastened by our Father, it's only for a minute compared to our eternal life with Him. Nobody wants to be disciplined or corrected, but if you want to be right with God, get used to it! Don't take it personal, be happy about it. Because it means God, loves you and he's taking the time for you. He doesn't want you to go to Hell, so he corrects you. Now, instead of giving you the eternal correction (Eternal Hell fire.) We all need correction and discipline from time to time. But when we take it and don't give up, we reap the reward! God, is like a dad, who disciplines His children so they can grow up to be something, but if he doesn't punish us, we grow up to be trouble. We turn from our faith and rebel against God, until we die and then He has no choice, but to cast us into Hell!
